These homemade Halloween treats are hauntingly delicious while also making memories with your children or grandchildren. This is also a favorite recipe from one of my earliest cookbooks!
These “candy bars” are so quick and easy. You will be amazed at how yummy they are, especially considering the few ingredients start with saltines. I revamped the recipe for Halloween by decorating the “bars” with traditional Halloween candy corn and other treats like M&Ms in fall colors. This same recipe could be used for Christmas with Christmas candy decorations as well, however.
Jane and Brooks had a great time making the treats and then had an even better time “Booing” our neighbors. That’s the new kind and thoughtful way of celebrating this fun children’s day.
They put the treats in Halloween snack bags, then drew pictures with the caption “You Have Been Boo-ed”. It was delightful watching them leave the treats at our neighbors’ homes, ring the doorbell and run.
As a life lesson, we discussed how meaningful it is to give surprise, anonymous gifts to others without expecting anything in return.
This recipe is as much fun to make and share as it is delicious. Enjoy!
