Still indulging on holiday treats? Here’s a great option for dessert at your next holiday gathering.

Pecans are a wonderful snack option, and one of my favorite types of nuts. In addition, they offer an array of health benefits. According to the National Pecan Shellers Association (NPSA):

  • Pecans contain more antioxidants than any other nut variety according to ORAC values
  • Pecans can help reduce the risk of heart disease and lower cholesterol levels
  • Pecans contain more than 19 vitamins and minerals
  • Pecans are also a natural, high-quality source of protein and naturally sodium free

Aside from enjoying pecans as a healthy alternative, this month is the perfect time to take advantage of the opportunity to enjoy the many dessert dishes enhanced by the flavor of pecans.

We all know pecan pie is delicious, but have you ever considered taking the signature flavors of the classic dessert – like pecans, brown sugar, vanilla and butter – and blending them together to make a pie crust? I did – and it was amazing.

I find that homemade crust taste SO much better than generic varieties found at the grocery store. This one is no exception! It’s especially good with any custard pie.
