September is such a fun month. With the first day of fall and Fashion Weeks from the world’s biggest fashion capitols, there’s so much to look forward to! But did you know September is also National Self-Improvement Month?
Though many people make an effort to improve themselves at the onset of a new year, each September I like to set personal and professional goals to be closer to my best self.
Read on for three ideas to help get you started on the journey to self-improvement this month, too!
Make Small Steps to Improve Your Nutrition: Our nutrition is critical to our overall health. What we eat and how much we eat can even affect our appearance, memory and mood!
This month, whether it’s a starting food journal or a using a calorie-counting app such as MyFitnessPal, there are several easy ways to improve your diet. For instance, if you’re accustomed to having a glass of dessert wine each night, try switching to a dry or red wine to cut calories.
Get Reacquainted with Family and Friends: How often do you see an old friend, suggest a lunch or dinner date in the near future, mutually agree – and then, nothing happens? Though our intentions are good in scenarios like this, there is often a missed connection because life simply gets in the way.
That’s why September is great time to make a genuine effort to evaluate relationships with the people we care about the most. I like to consider how I can be a better friend and family member, and how I can better allocate my time to ensure my loved ones know how special they are to me.
This month, ask yourself: Could I spend more time with those I care about if I spend less time working on (insert time-consuming activity or task here)?”
…But Don’t Forget to Make Time for Yourself: We often get so wrapped up in school, work, or our everyday routine that we forget to make time for ourselves before bedtime. This month, try scheduling 30 minutes to yourself each day, doing whatever it is that YOU want to do. I find this to be incredibly relaxing!
Tell Me: How do you plan to celebrate self-improvement month?
