What a pleasure it was meeting artist Stephen Wilson last night at one of my favorite fashion forward boutiques, Our Place in Charlotte, which is the perfect place to showcase this talented artist.
Wilson uses predominantly fabric and thread, combined with sculptural 3D printing, laser engraving, and painting. Fashion influence is prevalent in his pieces. The fabrics used include Hermès silk, Chanel wool, fabrics by Marc Jacobs, Oscar De La Renta, Vera Wang, Ralph Lauren, Versace, Dolce & Gabanna and Brunello Cucinelli. Contemporary art, pop art, street art, graffiti, and iconography, as well as traditional quilting and handicrafts also influence him.
Each piece is unique and expertly crafted in his studio in Charlotte, North Carolina using both traditional and modern tools. His pieces have been included in solo gallery exhibitions, group exhibitions and museum shows. Art enthusiasts worldwide collect his work.
Mechlle Deluca-Mellisaris (pictured above) continues the tradition of bringing a classic mix of casual, career and travel clothing with an edge to the shop started by her mom, Virginia Sumerall, in 1977. Our Place continues to be a shopping destination as Mechelle brings the best of American and European designers to a new generation.
My colorful and comfortable outfit was styled by Denise Shirley (follow her on Instagram @the_prism_effect). Top by Tanya Taylor, jeans by Ralph Lauren, earrings by Oscar de la Renta, bag by Balenciaga and shoes by Aquazurra. Denise is wearing a dress by ASTR, choker by Danielle Nicole and earrings by Cara.
Tell Me: What is your favorite fashion trend at the moment?
