I’ve worn this vintage coat by Libertine for years and will enjoy it for many more, then pass it along to my daughter. It’s first home was a glamorous store in Beverly Hills decades ago. Years later it was discovered, recycled and embellished by the talented LA designer behind the Libertine label, Johnson Hartig. These days it makes its home in my closet.

It represents the look that I love most, especially for the holidays. Understated elegance transcends all others. I like the feel of vicuna, angora, cashmere, velvet, tulle, lace, silk and other luxurious fabrics. I like for the garments to cover my flaws, especially in winter. There’s nothing wrong with sparkle and shine in body-baring styles, but for me, the less-revealing, low-key sophisticated looks are the ones I prefer. These classics never go out of style and since party clothes are not worn as often as others, they need to last for years. Chic, timeless, clothes work for any age, which make them excellent investment pieces.

Here are a few of my favorite looks along with where to find them. Most are on sale or at a great price. These outfits may inspire you to shop your own closet for similar style combinations.

I love midi or maxi skirts that can be worn with a beautiful blouse, sweater or jacket for a holiday party, then later with a t-shirt to bring them down a notch (Click each image for details).

Velvet blazers are so versatile. With matching velvet pants or a wide leg crepe pant, they are party perfect. Then I wear mine during the day as a jacket with sneakers and jeans. Actually, I love ANYthing velvet. This is a great year to add to your velvet collection.

Tulle or lace makes me feel like a princess and transforms everyday pieces into festive, celebration attire.

I hope you enjoy all of the season’s special events with grace and style!
