We all have treasured accessories that we will keep forever, but I have discovered the fun of fashion accessories that can change boring basics into bold statements. Well-chosen adornments can be stylish and on trend without breaking the budget. These fun pieces are also perfect for travel. You will need far fewer clothes if you choose accessories that change your look and carry you through the day into evening.

A favorite stylist and friend Denise (@the_prism_effect on Instagram, pictured above) took me shopping at The Shoe Box at SouthPark Mall in Charlotte.

The Shoe Box was created in 1954 and now has multiple locations around the country, as well as a website (TheShoeBoxNYC.com) shopping offering shoes, bags, jewelry, sunglasses and more. I was amazed by the detail, quality and style while being so affordable. The sparkling modern interior along with the cheerful, kind staff of stylists make the experience such fun. The prices make you want to visit often. 

Take a look at the fun I had starting out in my own basic white pants and black sweater and changing them up and down by simply switching up the accessories.

I liked all their pyramid studded handbags, but finally chose this denim one with the colorful embroidered shoulder strap by INZI. My cobalt blue earrings are by Bauble Bar and my comfortable, brightly colored fringed slides are by Mystique.

To take the outfit up a notch, we added my own Giambatista Valli distressed white denim jacket with butterfly appliques. You can find denim jackets in all price ranges. From The Shoe Box I found a beaded clutch by Rebecca Minkoff and this year’s popular velvet mules with emblems. The cool, but not costly sunglasses by Quay Australia and the fringe beaded Bauble Bar earrings add just the right touches.

As I sat in front of the store making a few decisions, I let the bold slip-on sneakers by Badgley Mischka make the statement along with the Bauble Bar delicate jeweled choker. No earring needed when your necklace is the jewelry focal point.

For a completely different look, I replaced my own Derek Lam black sweater with my pink Peter Pilotto top that is so NOW and kept on my white Alexander McQueen pants and the Mystiqe fringe slides. Denise made that look work with rose gold colored fringe earrings and a practical, fun tote by My Other Bag. Love my pink cat-eye shades by Quay Australia.

A few things to keep in mind when accessorizing….

• Be fresh and modern instead of matchy-matchy.
• It is now very acceptable to wear baubles and sparkle during the day.
• Let your own personality speak through your accessories.
