My inspiration for this post is the fact that Valentine’s Day lands on a Tuesday this year, and many of you may be going from workday activities to a lovely dinner. Actually, I always consider the versatility of a fashion purchase because that can save money, time and suitcase space when traveling. Basically, changing up the accessories takes a garment from dressing up to down.
This color blocked knit dress (pictured above) by Novis that I found at Capitol Clothing in Charlotte is a perfect example of a great investment piece. It is a knit, which means it will resist wrinkles and stay fresh for a long time, even after sitting in a car or an airplane seat. I appreciate the combination of geometry and art this fresh New York designer, Jordan Warmflash, brings to Novis. I own several pieces. The colors are bold, but the fit and flare style is classic and flattering. Being sleeveless allows comfort underneath coats, jackets, cardigans or shawls, all of which can take the dress from day to evening. It is also season less.
For day, depending on the weather, a comfortable flat or slide works, or a tall boot to add a little sophistication and warmth. I find Stuart Weitzman boots a great value. You can even design your own choosing heel height and boot height. For evening, it was love at first sight when I saw this Nicholas Kirkwood Lucite-heeled pump at Capitol.
From my long history with him, we already know how much I admire the man Oscar de la Renta. His company lives on and I continue to admire the designs, including the jewelry. I have proven that the pieces are timeless with the number of years I have been wearing them. You can find excellent prices on earlier pieces at the consignment store The Real Real. I’ve chosen a day style that could go into evening, but it’s fun to put on something with a little sparkle for the night. Neiman Marcus also carries a nice collection of Oscar de la Renta jewelry.
For this chilly time of year, I chose a chunky fur jacket that can be worn with this Marc Jacobs scarf during the day and embellished for evening with a brooch by Lanvin found at Farfetch.com . For evening I also added a heart shaped necklace from Farfetch by the same designer. The jacket is by another designer that I had the pleasure of spending time and to this day love to find his classic designs at consignment stores, as I did this stunning cropped faux fur by Bill Blass. For day, this season less Balenciaga leather tote found at atches.com holds all the evening accessories, along with all my other workday necessities. For evening, switch to a mini bag or Gucci clutch with crystals found at ProfileFashion.com. It goes with most anything and would never go out of style.
Happy Valentine’s Day, no matter what you wear!
