There’s a reason email has become a primary method of communication – writing letters takes take and energy. It is my hope, however, that after reading this post you’ll be inspired to pick up the nearest pen and write to a friend or neighbor today.
In honor of National Card Reading Day, here are 10 great reasons to send a card today.
- Make a Difference
Interested in changing something in your community but not sure how to go about it? Crafting a letter that you then deliver to every home and business in your area can be a great way to be heard and to find others who agree with you.
- Remind Yourself of the Present
It may sound bizarre to send a letter to your future self, but it’s actually a great way to take a snapshot of your life in the present, so you can remember for later. Hello, nostalgia!
- Say “Thank You”
This one may seem obvious, but you’d be surprised how seldom people send handwritten thank you cards (in lieu of an email). Something about the personalization that comes with a handwritten letter makes it extra special.
- Sing Praises
Customer service is very important to me during a shopping experience. Aside from giving positive reviews on sites such as Yelp, Trip Advisor and Google, after experiencing great service, I also like send a write a letter directly to the company to inform them of my positive experience.
- Make a Child’s Day
There’s something magical about receiving a letter for a child. Try mailing a card to your child, grandchild or special little one in your life to let them know you love them.
- Get a Discount
Here’s a tip for my fellow shoppers – some of our favorite retailers don’t publish their coupons, but they’re still available. All you have to do is send them a letter requesting access to special offers in writing. Another tip? Be sure to include a Self-Addressed Stamped Envelope (SASE) to make it a bit easier for them.
- Simple Reminders
Sometimes sending a nice card to a loved one to let you know how much you cherish them – and why – can make all the difference in the world.
- Old Friends
I cherish my friendships and – though I don’t get to see many of my dearest friends often due to distance – social media and text messaging has made keeping in touch a lot easier. Though nothing can replace having a pen pal.
A nice card to let your long distance friend(s) know that they’re on your mind is always a nice surprise.
